Testing Your Podcast

Once you have created a feed and added a new podcast to the feed, you can test your podcast, using the automatically created link that displays on the Manage Feeds screen.

 

If you are new to podcasting, we recommend downloading the free iTunes software so that you can test your podcasts. You can download it for Windows or Mac by clicking on the Download Now link at the following address: http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/

 

 

To test your podcast:

In the Podcasting Control Panel, click on the Manage Feeds link in the top navigation bar.

On the Manage Feeds screen, click to select the desired feed in the Podcast Feeds area.

Clicking directly on the link in the Syndication Feed area will probably cause a browser window to appear with several lines of code. This is normal -- an Internet browser is not used to listen to the podcast, so it just displays the code. It's necessary to copy and paste the link into an appropriate program, and "subscribe" to a podcast.

If you want to share your podcast with people who are new to podcasting, feel free to send them a link to the Subscribing to a Podcast topic. (The topic includes instructions on how to copy and paste the direct link for the topic.)

In the Syndication Feed area:

(Windows) Right click on the link and choose Copy Shortcut.

(Mac) Hold the CTRL key down, click on the link and choose Copy Link Location.

Use the link you have just copied to subscribe to a podcast using your favorite software. Instructions for subscribing to a podcast in iTunes are available in the Subscribing to a Podcast topic.
